Dental crowns on the Gold Coast

Be Dental is an established Gold Coast dentist providing custom crafted dental crowns. There are several different types of dental crowns, with each used as a solution for misshapen, damaged, decayed, or broken teeth. Our Gold Coast dental clinic uses digital scans and designs to craft personalised dental tooth crowns quickly and efficiently.

What are dental crowns?

Think of dental crowns as customised caps that are fitted over damaged or misshapen teeth. They’re used both to enhance cosmetic appearance in the mouth and to strengthen and protect the tooth below. You may need a single tooth crown, or a full row of dental crowns with a bridge. Dental crowns are made from a range of different materials, and our Gold Coast dentists will explain the benefits of each one to you and make recommendations based on your specific circumstances.

What are dental crowns used for?

Restoration of a damaged tooth

A tooth that has been broken or damaged can be capped with a dental crown to restore its look and function. Dental crowns provide added strength for teeth that are weakened, while also improving the appearance of a misshapen tooth.

Cover for discoloured teeth

You may choose to undergo a dental crown procedure if you have discoloured teeth that are severely stained and unresponsive to whitening efforts. A dental crown can be made in the shade you desire, giving you the appearance you want.

Protection for a weakened tooth

If a tooth is weakened or cracked, a dental crown may be recommended for protection. This could be a tooth that has been worn down, has a root canal, or has a large filling with not much tooth structure left.

Anchoring of a dental bridge

If you need a dental bridge placed to replace a missing tooth, you may need a dental crown to secure it. Dental crowns and bridges are often used together to provide stability in the mouth when tooth replacement is needed.

Types of dental crowns and cost

At Be Dental, we offer a variety of different types of dental crowns. This includes porcelain, zirconia, gold, and same-day CEREC crowns, with a focus on same-day CEREC crowns.  Our cost remains the same across the different types of dental crowns, with a full fee of $1,850 for treatment. This includes consultation, mouth assessment, digital scans, tooth preparation, dental crown creation, and fitting. Regardless of the type of dental crown you choose, you can feel confident that the price will remain the same with Be Dental.

What is the process for dental crown treatment?

The process for dental crown treatment is straightforward, and relatively similar regardless of the type of dental crowns chosen. We’ll explain the exact steps based on the specific dental crown you choose, but the basic breakdown is as follows:

One

Initial consult

During your initial consult, our Gold Coast dentists will take the time to listen to your concerns, examine your teeth, and provide recommendations on the types of dental crowns that are suitable. If you require an emergency same day dental crown, we’ll move quickly and efficiently to make sure your tooth is protected.

Two

Scan and tooth preparation

Our team uses digital scans to create the perfect crown for your tooth. These scans are then used to build your dental tooth crown, eliminating the need for traditional impressions and reducing patient chair time. Your tooth will also be prepared for the crown fitting, and in some cases, a temporary crown will be fitted for interim protection.

Three

Creation of your dental crowns

Next, your crowns are created. The time for a dental crown to be created depends on the type of crown chosen. For CEREC crowns, this process takes around 40 minutes. Other types of dental crowns typically take longer, and you’ll need to book in a separate day for the fitting. We use state-of-the-art technology to craft our dental crowns, and are able to make precision-accurate crowns in a variety of different materials.

Four

Dental crown fitting

Once your crown has been crafted, it can then be installed. This will be done during an appointment, where our experienced Gold Coast dentists will make sure your dental crown fits perfectly. We’ll make any adjustments needed before polishing your new crown. After this, our team will provide you with aftercare advice for taking care of your dental crown.

Same day dental crowns

Be Dental specialises in CEREC same day dental crowns. These are particularly convenient for patients as they can be completed in 80 to 100 minutes (including a 40-minute break in the middle where patients can go for a walk, get a coffee, or do some shopping). CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, and it’s an efficient solution for those seeking dental crowns without the need for multiple visits and traditional impressions.

Frequently asked questions

Have a question about dental crowns? Take a look at our frequently asked questions below to see if your query is answered:

A dental crown procedure is generally not painful. At Be Dental, we’ll use a local anaesthetic to numb the area first, so you don’t feel pain during the treatment. You may feel pressure or notice some vibration during the tooth preparation. Sensitivity may occur for a few days after the procedure, but this can be managed with over-the-counter pain relief, and should settle quickly.

Dental crowns are considered a long term dental solution, but they are not technically permanent. With good oral hygiene and proper care, dental crowns are designed to last between 10 and 15 years (with some lasting much longer!). The longevity of your dental crowns depends on factors such as teeth grinding, diet, and regular dental check-ups. Avoiding habits such as chewing ice and using your teeth as tools can help your crown last longer.

The recovery from dental crown treatment is usually pretty quick. Typically, patients can return to work the same day, or resume normal activities. It’s common for mild tenderness or sensitivity to last for a few days after the procedure. To help with this, avoid very hot or very cold foods and eat softer items for the first 48 hours. If you’re noticing discomfort lasting for more than a week, or seeing worsening of symptoms, contact your dentist.

While somewhat similar, the main difference between dental crowns and dental veneers lies in their purpose and how much of the tooth they cover. A dental crown is a cap that covers the entire tooth, and it’s used when the tooth is cracked, weakened, heavily filled, or has undergone a root canal treatment. Crowns are primarily used to restore the strength, function, and appearance of a tooth. In comparison, a dental veneer is a thin shell that only covers the front surface of the tooth. Dental veneers are primarily used for aesthetic reasons such as changing the colour or shape of a tooth.
